1. If you say that you’d be better off doing something, it means that you believe doing that thing would benefit you more than what you’re currently doing.

 

I shouldn’t have gone to this boring party! I’d be better off relaxing at home and watching a movie.

 

 

2. Something that’s touch-and-go is in a risky or delicate state. It means that what happens next is very uncertain and might be bad.

 

Our business is doing better than it was last year, but it’s still touch-and-go. In this economy, things could get bad again very quickly.

 

3. A wishy-washy person is someone who finds it difficult to make firm decisions.

 

My friends never ask me where I want to eat anymore. They say I’m too wishy-washy.

 

 

1. The expression it hit someone means that a person suddenly realized something.

 

I was watching a cooking show on TV when it hit me: I really want to be a chef!

 

2. Something that’s crystal clear is very obvious or easy to understand.

 

I think everyone understood the story’s message. It was crystal clear.

 

3. A light bulb moment is when something that you didn’t understand suddenly becomes very clear to you.

 

After her near-death experience, she had a light bulb moment. She realized that she needed to spend more time with her loved ones.

 

1. My thoughts are with you. is used to extend sympathy to someone who’s going through a difficult time.

 

2. You can say I can’t imagine how you feel. to someone who has experienced something terrible.

 

3. When you say I’m sure someone’s heart was in the right place., you think that a person had good intentions when he/she did something, even if the action itself was not good.

 It’s not easy to see, but he only did that to help you. I’m sure his heart was in the right place.
 
 
 
1. The expression I can/can’t live with that. can be used to say whether you accept a situation or not.
 
2. You can use the phrase might as well do something to say that doing something is better than not doing it.
 
3. Point taken. is an expression used to say that you understand and accept what someone is saying.
