そんな言い方するんだねぇ〜、というものもあれば知ってた！という表現もあります。

To open someone’s eyes means to make a person realize something that he/she was not aware of before.

My previous job opened my eyes to how important teamwork is.

2. If someone has a change of heart, he/she has changed his/her opinion about something.

I was going to throw away my son’s old toys, but I had a change of heart. I decided to keep them to remember these special years.

3. An aha moment is when someone suddenly has a realization or gets a new idea.

We almost gave up on the problem, but then Josh suddenly had an aha moment and figured how to solve it.

1. I didn’t see that coming. means you did not expect something to happen.

Janet quit? Wow, I didn’t see that coming! I thought she liked working here.

2. Holy cow! is an expression of surprise.

$50,000?! Holy cow! I didn’t think a purse could be that expensive.

3. To be gobsmacked means to be speechless from shock or surprise.

Well, uh, I—I’m gobsmacked. I thought you’d pick Hiro for this promotion.

1. When you think the world of someone, you think very highly of a person.

My son thinks the world of his grandfather. He wrote about his grandfather for his school essay on real-life heroes.

2. When you tell someone what a something he/she is, you let him/her know what kind of person you think he/she is. It can be used both positively and negatively.

If I were still in touch with my professor, I would tell her what a wonderful mentor she was. She’s the reason for my success now.

3. Remarkable means special or exceptional.

The president of the company is quite a remarkable person. He does charity work and has even written several best-selling self-help books!
