Weather Concerns
今日から新しいレッスン。
先生の通信環境が悪いとかで、Skypeでレッスンしました。
今までも、何件かSkypeで連絡があった。接続できなかったときも、先生からSkypeに連絡あった。Skype起動しないからまったく気づかなかった。
先生は、山の上に住んでいるということだ。
子供のときは、道がなくて、買い物に行くのに歩いてでかけなければならず、朝でかけて帰りは夕方になるような生活だったとのこと。帰りは買い物の荷物を背負い歩いたっそうだ。大変だったろう。
しかし、15歳のときに、道の工事が始まった。日本のコマツとかひたちの建設機械で工事が行われ、大きな岩を上から下に下ろすようなところを、眺めていた。
やはり、生活がいろいろ違うんだな。授業で話しているだけだと、わからないけれど、バックボーンや生活、感覚などいろいろ違うのだろう。
今日の表現
1. A chance of something means that a weather condition might happen.
There’s a chance of a thunderstorm this weekend.
2. High/low refers to the warmest/coldest temperature of the day.
The low at night will be around -9°C, so definitely bring a warm coat!
3. If temperatures rise/drop, it means that they are increasing/decreasing.
The daytime temperatures should rise soon because it’s almost spring.
